Hip Pain

The source of hip pain can be as diverse as the types of patients affected by hip problems. Hip pain can be related to degenerative disease or infections, or the condition may develop after trauma, such as a fall or sports injury, and can impact a person’s ability to walk, run, or perform everyday functions like sitting, climbing stairs, and resting comfortably.

The structure of the hip illustrates why and how it can cause so many issues and affect the whole body. The pelvis and femur (thighbone) come together to form the largest joint in the body.

Disorders of the Hip That May Cause Pain and Mobility Problems Include:

  • Arthritic conditions
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Bursitis
  • Hamstring injury
  • Torn or stretched tendons and ligaments
  • Pinched, compressed, or damaged nerves
  • Dislocation or fracture
  • Abnormal growth
  • Deep vein thrombosis
